Measurements are taken regarding the number of follicles to determine the amount of loss that has occurred and if seeking transplantation, the number of donor follicles that are available for transplant. The diameter, texture, tensile strength and health of the hair and follicles in the various regions of the scalp are also measured at this time and a report is generated.

If an underlying medical condition is suspected Dr. Gerbrands may recommend more testing such as blood work or a histopathology exam where a small biopsy is taken from the skin of the scalp and sent off to a laboratory for examination. Once a diagnosis is confirmed, the medical condition can be managed accordingly. Based on the results of these investigations and after careful assessment, Dr Gerbrand will present you with the best options available to you for the management and treatment of your hair loss.
