FUT Hair Transplant

Also known as Follicular Unit Transplant and more commonly known as a “strip surgery”.

FUT is another method of hair transplantation. This surgery remains the gold standard of hair transplant surgery for a variety of reasons and often allows for a greater number of grafts to be harvested.  FUT entails Dr. Gerbrands mapping out and  preparing the recipient site. She will then proceed to remove a thin strip of the scalp from the donor area containing the hair follicles. Under a stereoscopic microscope,  individual hair follicles are excised from the strip and sorted by the number of hairs per follicle.

Dr. Gerbrands will then place the follicles (grafts) in the pre-prepared designated recipient site. The patient receives local anesthetic to ensure their comfort and most patients put their feet up, relax, listen to music or watch a movie while their procedure is being done.

There are a variety of considerations that Dr. Gerbrands takes into account such as scalp laxity, donor hair parameters, healing potential and overall health. After completing a thorough examination, Dr. Gerbrands will recommend the best method of transplantation that is best suited for your circumstances, ensuring that you receive best possible results.

Mega sessions:

Mega sessions are performed at De Haar Hair Restoration utilizing the FUT (follicular unit transplantation) or FUE (follicular unit extraction technique). A mega session procedure is where 3000 to 5000 grafts or more are transplanted in one session. The ideal candidate for a mega session procedure is when a patient has advanced hair loss over a large area and has a sufficient number of donor hair available to transplant. Mega sessions provide noticeable and comprehensive results faster. Mega sessions are incredibly transformative for patients with significant hair loss. Call us today to get started.
