Also known as follicular unit extraction is a method of hair transplantation that involves removing individual follicular units from what is referred to as the donor area, the area where permanent hair resides, and implanting them into the recipient area. Follicular units are also referred to as grafts. The recipient area is mapped out and prepared by Dr Gerbrands prior to removing the grafts. Each individual hair follicle (graft) generally contains between I to 4 hairs. These individual follicular units are harvested individually with a micro punch, generally 0.7 to 1.2mm in size. Dr Gerbrands then places the grafts into the pre-prepared recipient area location designated for that particular graft.
